heini
nukari (b.1972 in finland) started her artistic education in the area of music
and theatre. later she studied in the school for new dance developement (sndo)
from where she graduated 1997. in amsterdam she was also a member of the
company subtheater.
since 1998 she is based in berlin as a free-lance dancer/choreographer. she has been working a.o. jonna huttunen, ten pen chii art labor, thomas lehmen and christoph winkler. together with anna jankowska (poland) she founded TRAVA 1998. TRAVA has since then produced several pieces. they became known with the piece ‘hahmomania’ at the TANZTAGE berlin 2000. ‘no time for wasa’, a piece commissioned by the tanzwerkstatt berlin, premiered at the ‘internationalen tanzfest – tanz im august 2001’ and toured as the german contribution to ‘dance roads’. various guest performances have ever since led TRAVA to several countries. 2004 heini’s solo ‘station kautschuk’ received the first prize in the international choreography competition of tanzimpulse salzburg. in the same year TRAVA was invited to work with the ballet vorpommern. in the latest piece,’hella!helle!, premiered 2005 at sophiensaele berlin, TRAVA cooperated with a musician and film maker. ’kuloflux’, a piece with heini and the musician sebastian schmidt, premiered at TANZTAGE berlin 2005 and became the last work produced under the name trava.
since 2006 heini is teaching “body&voice” workshops at the UDK (university of arts, berlin), at various theatre festivals and as an ongoing training in berlin. in june 2006 she took part in the intensive voice workshop, “towards the realisation of a project” at the roy hart theatre in france where she developed her new solo, “whitedogballads”, a work which combines movement, songs and text.
the voice training at the roy hart center continued in april 2007 as individual voice lessons and a further workshop.
in july/august 2006 she took part in the “moving stage lab”, which is part of the nordic theatre days in copenhagen.
from january till march 2007 heini was invited to AIAV (akiyoshidai international art village) in japan as a residence artist. there she created the piece “niko niko maa maa” which combines finnish and japanese languages musically.
in berlin she created an improvised solo for voice “jekku”, which premiered at the finnland-insitut (FIND) in berlin, june 2007. 2008 she was taking part in the project “c(H)ord” by shinichi iova-koga. the piece premiered at the yerba buena center for the arts in san fransisco in april 2008.
her latest project "insight out hear tosee" is an acoustic-visual exhibition created together with the photographer joerg fahlenkamp during an artist residency at the AIAV, japan., september-october 2008. the exhibition is shown in berlin at the brotfabrikGalerie.
